Horry County Crime Report 2001

These are taken from the police blotter, which is sporadically published by Myrtle Beach Access. These crimes were reported in Horry County, South Carolina. Some of the more interesting I've marked in red.


CONWAY
July 22
Vandalism: An unknown suspect entered Tiger Mart on Church Street. He went into the restroom and knocked the sink off the wall, breaking the pipes underneath the sink. The damage was estimated to be $200. The suspect fled in a green truck.

Criminal domestic violence: Two roommates, a 45-year-old man and a 54-year-old man, were fighting at their Ninth Avenue residence. The first man went to the bedroom after the second man started cursing at him and told him to shut his mouth. The second man jumped off the bed and started toward the first man. Then the first man got the second man in a headlock and the second man started hitting him in the ribs. The second man hit the first man in the face. Both men were arrested and taken to Horry County Detention Center.

July 18
Simple assault and battery:
A 29-year-old woman said an unknown teen-age boy hit her 11-year-old son in the side of the head and the mouth on Floyd Street. The teen-ager then fled on foot. The woman said she had seen the boy in the neighborhood before but didn't know who he was.

MYRTLE BEACH
July 24

Simple possession marijuana, structure fire: Police responded to a fire in one of the rooms of the Yachtsman Resort. A stove had been left on, which caused the fire. After firefighters extinguished the fire, police inspected the damage and on the kitchen table found a bag of marijuana, several pipes and rolling papers. The occupants of the room, two Ohio residents, admitted the marijuana was theirs. Both were arrested.

July 22
Grand larceny: A 53-year-old man said an unknown subject stole two Craftsman lawnmowers with a value of $800 and three Craftsman power washers valued at $1,150 from Sears on North Kings Highway. The man said the items were chained together outside the building.

July 19
Harassment: A 25-year-old man on Greens Boulevard said a 54-year-old woman called his 3-year-old child a "dirty Mexican," a "maggot" and a "maggot lover" and other names. He also said the woman made inappropriate gestures to the child and that she has called the man a "pervert" and commented that he was "funny." He said this has been going on about three weeks.

LORIS
July 21

Drunk and disorderly conduct: A 60-year-old man was fighting with his family around their house on Mishoe Street. He was drunk and disorderly and pounding on the front door and yelling. The family members in the house said they couldn't sleep. The man was arrested and transported to J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Vandalism of vehicle: A 25-year-old woman said someone poured brake fluid over her car while she was at work at the Party Pak on Broad Street. She washed her car and plans to seek further action if the paint comes off.

CONWAY
Aug. 12 Simple assault and battery:
A 45-year-old man was arguing with his 71-year-old aunt at his Ridge Street residence. He told her he was going to get a gun and "put someone in the grave if they did not leave him alone." He said the aunt tries to "run his house."

Aug. 11 Shoplifting: Employees of the Winn Dixie on Church Street said an unknown woman put six packages of rib-eye steaks in a large black pocketbook. When the woman passed by the checkout area, one of the cashiers tried to stop her, but the woman proceeded through the doors. She then got into a red Chevy Blazer and drove off.

Aug. 10 Bomb threat: The store manager at Piggly Wiggly on Fourth Avenue said the store received two phone calls within 10 minutes saying there was a bomb in the store. All employees and customers were evacuated. Police checked the building, and no suspicious packages were found. People were then allowed back into the store.

Aug. 9 Criminal domestic violence: A 25-year-old man was arguing with his 16-year-old sister at their Ward Circle residence about some dirty clothes. A younger brother tried to break it up, and the older brother grabbed him. The sister jumped between them, and the older brother then grabbed her and fell to the floor, breaking some glasses with his back. The older brother punched the sister, then the mother broke up the fight. The older brother ran through the house pulling all the phone cords out of the wall, and then he left. Police found him in the back yard. He was arrested and transported
to jail.

Aug. 12
Malicious damage, disorderly conduct: A 17-year-old Whiteville, N.C., girl said she was turning left on Meeting Street when an 18-year-old Conway woman approached her truck with a small bat and started to argue. As the N.C. woman passed the Conway woman, the Conway woman hit the truck with the bat. The N.C. woman then stopped the truck, got out and grabbed the bat. She then started to assault the other woman and threatened her with the bat. Both were arrested.

Aug. 8 Shoplifting, trespassing, simple assault: A Loris man went into the meat department at Sun Mart on Broad Street and put two boneless rib-eye steaks under his shirt. A store clerk saw him and asked him to give her the steaks. He said he didn't have any steaks. A male employee then asked him for the steaks, and the suspect pushed the employee in the chest and tried to punch him with a closed fist. The man was arrested.

MYRTLE BEACH
Aug. 9
Shoplifting: A cashier at IGA on South Kings Highway said a 46-year-old Myrtle Beach man walked past her checkout line with a large bulge in his shirt. She told her manager, who escorted the man to the stockroom and pulled three Gillette razors from underneath the man's shirt. The man told police he stole the razors. He was arrested for shoplifting.

Aug. 9 Harassment: A 31-year-old Myrtle Beach woman said when she arrived at work at Hardee's on South Kings Highway, her manager told her a man had called and told her manager that her house was very dirty and that she should not be working around food. He also told the manager that she never took a bath and that her husband was the same way. She said this was the second time the man had called about this.

CONWAY
Aug. 15 Shoplifting:
An employee at Movie Gallery on Church Street said a 17-year-old male entered the store and took a Sony PlayStation game worth $50 and walked out. The suspect was arrested and taken to Horry County Detention Center.

Aug. 14 Burglary: An employee at the Conway Public Library on Fifth Avenue said that when he arrived for work he noticed the rear side door had been kicked open. A large, muddy footprint was on the door. Nothing appeared to be missing.

LORIS
Aug. 17
Petit larceny: The owner of the mobile home park at 4303 Walnut St. said she had a resident evicted, and the man was ordered to be out by Aug. 17. The man removed a 13-inch television, a stove and a refrigerator that belong to the park owner.

MYRTLE BEACH
Aug. 15
Petit larceny: A 32-year-old Myrtle Beach man said an unknown person took his digital camera from Shoney's on North Kings Highway. He arrived at work at Shoney's and put his camera on a shelf. When he went to get his camera, it was gone.

Burglary of a motel room: A 61-year-old man and his family, from Catlettsburg, Ky., were staying at the Anderson Inn on North Ocean Boulevard. They went for a walk, and when they came back, they noticed their blue towel was missing. They looked around the room and saw that a wallet, a purse, about $600 in cash, six credit cards, a Smith & Wesson .32-caliber revolver, a checkbook, two knives and two cameras were missing.

Aug. 14 Simple assault and battery: A 31-year-old man said a 30-year-old man approached him as he was leaving the Division of Motor Vehicles on 21st Avenue North and punched him in the face. The suspect then punched the man in the groin area and threatened to follow him. The victim doesn't know the reason for the attack.

SURFSIDE BEACH
Aug. 15
Dog fight: A 57-year-old man said he was walking his 15-pound American Eskimo Spitz in the 500 block of South Dogwood Street when a young boy lost control of his 80-pound white Dalmatian. The Dalmatian attacked the victim's dog, biting it and shaking it around. The Eskimo Spitz showed no sign of external injuries.

MYRTLE BEACH
Sept. 3
Criminal Sexual Conduct:
A 22-year-old N.C. woman reported she was sexually assaulted during the holiday weekend at a Myrtle Beach motel, police said. The woman from Kings Mountain told police that between 2 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Saturday she met two men on Ocean Boulevard and invited them to her room, the police report said. They later went to the beach to smoke marijuana and walked to another hotel room. The woman said she does not remember what happened after that, but she woke up with her clothes off. She said she felt like she had been sexually assaulted. Both men were gone and the woman returned to her motel room, the report said.

CONWAY
Sept. 1
Criminal domestic violence: A 40-year-old Conway woman told police the 41-year-old Conway father of her child pushed her in the face after they argued about him going fishing. The woman said the man wanted to go fishing, but she wanted him to spend time with their child. The woman said he pushed her down on the bed and left the house in the 400 block of Church Street.

Sept. 2
Harassment:
A 21-year-old man reported to police he was at a local pizza restaurant just before 6 p.m. when an employee came out of the business and yelled at him about making comments about them having sexual encounters. The woman also said she knows where the man lives and would have her boyfriend find him. The man said the woman pointed “her finger in an aggressive manner towards him,” the report said.

HORRY COUNTY (I imagine Punch Bowl Landing isn't part of an incorporated town, but I do know that the F*cking Hole was in Conway City Limits)
Sept. 1
Armed robbery:
A woman reported to police she was robbed after a man, who she used to purchase narcotics from, approached her and asked for money. The woman was getting gasoline at a convenience store in Conway about midnight when the man approached her. She went to pay for the gasoline and when she got in the car, the man came from the back seat and demanded she drive him to Punch Bowl Landing. At the site, the man asked for sex, she refused and he punched her and took money and her car.

LORIS
Sept. 1
Assault: Two Loris men argued and one accused the other of pointing a .22-caliber chrome handgun at him during the incident. A 22-year-old man told a 25-year-old man “I’ll get you before you get me,” according to the report. Police talked to the 22-year-old man accused in the incident and he denied having a gun, but did admit to the argument. The men were advised of warrant procedures.
