
These are taken from the police blotter, which is sporadically published by Myrtle Beach Access. These crimes were reported in Horry County, South Carolina. Some of the more interesting I've marked in red.
February
Simple assault: The manager at Wendy's on Church Street said two employees
got into an altercation. A 21-year-old employee got mad and threw a hamburger
patty that missed the bun. When his 24-year-old female coworker asked him
to put the meat on the bun, he shoved her against the wall and spit in her
face.
Suspicious activity:
Someone left a dead possum in a blue Wal-Mart bag at a 40-year-old
man's house on 27th Avenue North.
Indecent exposure: A 52-year-old woman was cleaning
a room at the Wave Rider Resort when she heard a whistle. She saw a man across
the street behind a Dumpster. He had his pants down and was shaking his genitals
at her. The woman's boss approached him but the man left.
Argument: A 42-year-old man argued with his 25-year-old common-law wife who has multiple personalities. She accused him of having an affair with another woman who is one of her other personalities. The woman is under a doctor's care.
Vandalism of property:
Someone drove a vehicle into the sign and fence at Kingston Presbyterian
Church. Damage was estimated at $1,200. The vehicle's front bumper had a blue
license plate with the names ``Barry and Grady'' on it
Criminal domestic violence: A woman told police
that she was on the phone when her sister told her she wanted to use the phone.
The victim said she refused and her sister then pulled the cord around her
neck.
Grand larceny: A man told police his boat was
stolen from the dock area on Front Street. The man said the boat is white
and has a flat bottom, valued at $10,000. The next day, the man reported to
police that he found the boat and the motor, but didn't tell police where
he located it.
Carrying a gun on school property:
An 18-year-old man was arrested at Loris High School after a police officer
found marijuana, a rifle, a knife, a box of bullets, a baseball bat and two
unopened beers in his Hyundai.
Overdose: A 22-year-old woman passed out in a dressing room at the Master's Gentlemen's Club. Another woman said she saw her take a drug in the Chippendale room of the club earlier. The victim said she was drinking Southern Comfort and thought someone put something in her drink. She was taken to the hospital.
Simple assault and battery: A 19-year-old woman was on the dance floor at Yesterday's. A 20-year-old man called her a whore. She got mad and went after him. He punched her in the eye and knocked her down. He was arrested. She suffered a swollen right eye.
Assault, suspicious circumstances: A 21-year-old man was walking on Dunbar Street. Another man jumped out and attacked him. He said the man told him, ``I ain't down with your homeboys.'' His attacker bit him on the arm and cut him with a sharp object.
Shoplifting: An employee at a store on North Fraser told police that they spotted a 21-year-old man stuffing tapes down his pants. The tapes are valued at $26.
Shoplifting: A 39-year-old woman put four packs of cigarettes in her bra at Food Lion on U.S. 501. A store employee asked for the cigarettes and she pulled them out and gave them to him. The woman, who was arrested, said she didn't know why she took them.
Shoplifting: A 29-year-old man was arrested after
a convenience store employee saw him take a bottle of car wax from the store
on Broad Street. After taking the car wax, the man began walking toward the
railroad tracks. Police officers found the man walking. They also found the
car wax.
Indecent exposure: A woman said a man exposed
himself to juveniles. She said the group was walking down a hallway as the
man mooned his friends. The children said the man asked them, ``Who's your
daddy?'' He later said he didn't know the children were around. He was arrested
for exposing himself and for being drunk in public.
Simple assault and battery: A 27-year-old man and his girlfriend were trying to watch television. A 23-year-old man, was playing a video game. The first man asked him to turn it off so they could watch television. The second man cursed at the first man and punched him. The girlfriend broke up the fight. She told her boyfriend to go outside and cool off. The second man assaulted the first man with a beer bottle and left.
Shoplifting: A 43-year-old man was spotted by a security guard at Kmart wearing old, dirty clothes. The guard later saw him wearing a new red and white shirt, and jeans. The man had torn the price tags off both items and tried to leave the store without paying. The clothes and a stolen fishing pole were returned to the store, and the man was arrested.
Injured person, intoxicated juvenile: A 40-year-old woman was chaperoning high-school band members. Three of the girls went to a party, and two of them drank a lot. One fell and hit her head on Ocean Boulevard and passed out. She suffered a bump to her head.
Malicious damage to property: A clerk at The
Pantry in the 900 block of
US 17 South said a man came into the store to buy a pack of cigarettes. The
clerk asked for identification and, eventually, refused to sell the man the
cigarettes. The man's girlfriend came into the store and cursed at the clerk
before leaving. Later, a softball-size rock was thrown through the store window.
Damage was estimated at $400.
April 11
Harassing phone
calls:
A Melanie Lane resident said someone phoned him eight times and didn't say
anything. The caller phoned again and made grunting sounds.
April 9
Shoplifting: A 24-year-old woman put
a Patty Cake in her purse and tried to leave the Scotchman at 601 N. Kings
Highway without paying for it. She was arrested. The Patty Cake cost 69 cents.
Disobeying a police officer, simple possession of marijuana and open display: About 2:30 a.m., officers responded to a loud house party on Second Avenue South. The house party had relocated into the street. Officers instructed the people to remove themselves from a public street and keep the noise down. The suspect was advised several times to get out of the street. The subject refused and was arrested. Pursuant to a frisk for weapons, a bag of marijuana was found in his pants pocket. Another suspect was arrested and charged with open display of alcohol. Both were taken to jail.
April 8
Domestic violence: A 43-year-old woman said her husband left a month
ago. He went to her residence at Lakewood Apartments and was waiting for her
to get home. She got home and exited her van. He got out of his truck, approached
her and grabbed her by the neck and began to pick her up. He threatened to
kill her.
Malicious damage to personal property: A 32-year-old man said a golf ball from the driving range across from his 10th Avenue North residence struck his vehicle. The rear windshield was damaged.
Public disorderly conduct/intoxication: Police were dispatched to Dick's Last Resort at 4700 US 17 South concerning an intoxicated female. Restaurant staff said she threw an object at an alligator swimming nearby. The subject was grossly intoxicated with slurred speech and a high odor of alcohol. She said she only wanted to feed the alligator. She was arrested and transported to jail. It was reported that the alligator left the area after the assault.
Fighting: Police observed three female subjects hollering and screaming at each other at Barefoot Landing at 49th Avenue South. The subjects were irate and pointing fingers at each other. Physical evidence of scratches were found on the subjects. It was reported that the subjects were fighting about a parking space and did not appear to be drinking.
Public disorderly conduct and public nudity: Police responded to a complaint at Windmere Condominium at 523 S. Ocean Blvd. concerning a white female standing on the balcony shouting profanities and lifting her shirt to expose her breasts. Upon arrival, police arrested the suspect. The suspect had been drinking and was in the accompaniment of her husband.
Disorderly conduct: A 31-year-old woman said she fell in the restroom and hurt her leg at The Bowery because the floor was wet. A witness said the woman was drunk when she came in the restroom and her leg came in the next stall. The witness helped the woman up. The woman was uncooperative when she was taken to the hospital. When police saw the restroom floor, it wasn't wet.
Defecation in public: About 11:45 p.m., police observed yelling and laughing between the Ocean Drive Pavilion and First Avenue South. As the officer approached the area, he observed a female subject defecating in plain view of the public with other females cheering her Ont. suspect was arrested. Police cleaned up evidence of the crime.
Disorderly conduct and resisting arrest: About 11 p.m., police were answering an unrelated call at the House of Blues when a white male left the business and began hitting the police car. Police turned toward the suspect, who backed up against the car. The grossly intoxicated suspect showed his teeth, growled and began acting like a dog. While police tried to arrest the suspect, he resisted and began fighting the officer. The suspect was subdued and jailed.
Possession of crack cocaine: Police observed a white male trespassing at the Holiday Inn North. The subject became very nervous and suspicious-acting as the officer approached him. The officer asked permission to search for contraband. The subject voluntarily handed the officer his crack pipe. The officer then searched the subject and found one crack cocaine rock weighing half a gram in the rim of his baseball cap. The suspect was arrested and transported to the North Myrtle Beach Detention Facility. En route to jail, the suspect begged the officer for permission to smoke the crack. The suspect's request was denied and the evidence was secured in the department's evidence vault.
Shoplifting: A 28-year-old man was arrested
at the Circle K at 1100 N. Kings Highway. An employee said the man ate a hot
dog in the store and put a can of Spam down his pants. After police arrested
the man, the employee found a marijuana cigarette near where the man was standing.
The man denied the marijuana was his and said he didn't eat a hot dog.
Simple assault and battery: Two juveniles argued
at The Attic. A girl said a boy tried to grab her breast and thigh. She slapped
him. He said, ``Don't make me hit you,'' before he hit her in the face.
Disorderly conduct: A
22-year-old woman and another woman were at the G-Spot Bar on Yaupon Drive.
The women kissed each other. A man, who was at the business with his 8- and
9-year-old children, told them their behavior was gross. He said he wanted
them to take that elsewhere. The 22-year-old woman told him she was not a
lesbian, and that she and the other woman were good friends. They argued and
he told her, ``I'll put a cap in you.''
Suspicious activity: A former dancer at a strip
club said club management is pushing the dancers to commit prostitution. The
club's owner asked her to join him, his wife and a lawyer on a trip. On the
way there, the club's owner told the dancer to rub the lawyer's genitals,
she said. She said the other dancers had been asked to perform similar acts.
The dancer was fired the night after the trip.
Assault and battery: A 21-year-old man said his
girlfriend returned home in the afternoon after being gone all night. She
brought eight friends with her. Another man grabbed the 21-year-old, who was
attacked by at least four men. The 21-year-old requested a warrant.
Robbery: Employees at Papa John's on Church Street
said they were robbed by two men. One of the suspects had been in earlier
and filled out a job application. He returned to the business to ask about
his job. An employee said he didn't have anything for him at the time. The
man grabbed the deposit bag and ran toward Pizza Hut with another man who
was waiting for him outside.
Domestic dispute: A 21-year-old woman pushed
over a potted plant at her Walnut Avenue residence. Her 27-year-old boyfriend
threw a soft drink on her and she slapped him. He hit her and she locked him
out of the house. The two had just returned from Maryland and agreed to leave
each other.
Possible overdose: A male said he had been
doing ``whip-its.'' He took a cartridge, popped it, stuck it inside a balloon
and waited for the balloon to inflate. He put the balloon over his face and
nose to get a high. He also did four shots of Jack Daniels afterward and was
taken to the hospital.
Assault: A 22-year-old woman came home from church with her 14-month-old son. Her brother accused her of taking the Beanie Babies he bought. He punched her in the face and she punched him in the chest. They also choked each other. He told her to leave.
Grand larceny and malicious injury to personal property: At about 2 a.m., police observed two subjects running. One of the subjects was carrying a black pirate figure. One of them tried to elude officers and was forcefully taken down and handcuffed. Promptly, management from a nearby lounge at 205 Main St. identified the subjects as having just stolen the pirate figure used for display and advertisement. The lounge owner said the figure was valued at $4,300. The item was damaged during the larceny.
Public disorderly conduct in a vehicle: At about 1:30 a.m., police observed a suspicious 1997 Toyota parked in the rear of a business in the Windy Hill section. Police determined that sexual activities were going on inside the car. Both suspects were arrested and taken to jail. Alcohol was a factor in the arrests.
Public disorderly conduct: At about 5:15 p.m., police observed a white male subject skimpily dressed and lying face down in the sand on the beach at 17th Avenue South. The subject was grossly intoxicated and disoriented. He had slurred speech and could barely stand. He was arrested and taken into custody without incident.
Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, simple
possession of marijuana and drug equipment violations:
At about 3:30 a.m., police responded to a house party/loud music call at a
residence in the 4600 block of South Ocean Boulevard. The front door was open
and a strong odor of marijuana was detected upon entry. In plain view were
several narcotic items, paraphernalia, a large sum of money in a plastic container
and a letter scale. Occupants of the house were detained. A canine was called
to the residence for further narcotic detection. Approximately 65 grams of
marijuana and drug paraphernalia were seized into evidence. The suspects were
arrested and placed under a $5,000 bond.
Unlawful conduct toward a child: About about 2 a.m., the suspect was placed under for forgery and shoplifting. During booking, it was discovered that the suspect was seven months pregnant. The suspect was interviewed by detectives concerning her drug usage while being pregnant. The suspect reported she had smoked crack cocaine as early as 24 hours prior to being arrested and had done drugs the entire time she was pregnant. The S.C. Department of Social Services was contacted after the interview. The Attorney General's office said the unborn child could be taken into emergency protective custody and the suspect mother would go before the family court judge to be placed in an institution to ensure the child was properly cared for.
Malicious damage to property: An employee at
the Comfort Inn, in Surfside, showed police a room that was damaged and soiled
with blood. Blood was all over the room. The sink and towel rack in the bathroom
were damaged. A North Carolina man had rented the room for two of his workers.
Abandonment and neglect: A 37-year-old man said his 31-year-old wife left their home on Tannie Drive and didn't return. He said his wife had been picking up the family's food stamps and the checks of his two sons. However, he said she had not been bringing the money home and wasn't using it for the children. He said his wife had been using all the money to party. He also said she had been seen drinking and buying food several times.
July 9
Simple assault: A 37-year-old man reported that a male teen-ager in
his family pointed a small handgun at him and stated, ``I'll kill you and
your brother].'' The complainant said his male relative also told him, ``I'll
beat you down.'' The complainant's daughter also said the teen told her father,
``I'll pour gasoline on you.'' The incident report did not state why the complainant
thought his relative, who lives in Conway, confronted him with a handgun.
The incident occurred on Tannie Drive.
July 5
Speeding: A 25-year-old man from Fayetteville, N.C., was arrested after
a police officer clocked him going 80 mph in a 45 mph zone between US 501
and Seventh Avenue.
July 2
Gas drive off:
Someone drove away from a convenience store on US 501 without paying
for $10 worth of gas.
CONWAY
July 10
Aggravated assault with intent to kill: Police officers responded to
a call on Pine Street. When they arrived at the apartment they found one man
sitting upright on a chair and the other face down on a couch, both had bullet
wounds. One man was shot twice in the right forearm, twice in the right leg
and once in the lower back. The other man was shot once in the lower back.
The men said they were on their way to Garden City Beach to pick up some tools
to work on their car. They were traveling north on 9th Avenue and stopped
at a red light at Ninth Avenue and US 378. After they passed two men walking
down the street someone starting shooting. The men then drove back to their
apartment and called the police. The police department received an anonymous
call from someone saying that someone had been shot on Ninth Avenue and Ridge
Street. No shell casings were found at the scene but four bullet holes were
found in the side of the vehicle the men were driving. The men were transported
to Conway Hospital and both had surgery. Two bullets were removed from the
right leg of one of them.
GEORGETOWN
July 10
Sexual assault:
One Georgetown man made sexual advances toward another near Merriman
Road and Emanuel Street, and then tried to force himself on the man. The victim
said his attacker held him down and struck him several times, but he broke
free and ran to a telephone to call police. The alleged attacker told police
the other man was receptive to the advances and then ``he snapped.''
LORIS
July 10
Petit larceny: A 21-year-old woman said
her thirtysomething brother-in-law barged through the door of her apartment
on Dogwood Street, grabbed her air conditioner out of the window and left.
The woman said the air conditioner, which was worth $300, was given to her
as a housewarming gift.
July 9
Simple assault:
A 48-year-old man reported that his 31-year-old former girlfriend assaulted
him when he made a trip to a grocery store on Broad Street. The complainant
said he had gone to the grocery store to get him some cigarettes and other
items. While he was parked in the parking lot, he said his former girlfriend
pulled up beside him and began calling him derogatory names. The man said
she then reached inside of his vehicle, tried to slap him and scratched his
face. He said she also scratched his left arm. The reporting police officer
did see scratches on the man.
Malicious damage: Some unknown culprit threw
a rock and cracked a glass door at a seafood restaurant on Walnut Street.
The damage done to the rear door was $600.
July 8
Malicious damage: Someone unknown culprit slashed the tires of a 42-year-old
woman who left her car at a business on Main Street for about two weeks for
it to be repaired. The tires were worth $225.
July 7
Shoplifting: A
39-year-old man was arrested after he stole a $5 pint of wine from a business
on Broad Street.
MYRTLE BEACH
July 11
Indecent exposure: A girl said she was walking on the beach alone when
she passed a man. She said he grabbed her breast. When she went back to her
hotel, he was at the pool deck. She went to her room and knocked on the door
to wake her parents. She turned and saw the man standing there with his shorts
unzipped and his genitals exposed. She said he grabbed her rear and left.
Shoplifting: An 18-year-old man was arrested after he put a Kid Rock
compact disc in his pocket at Target after breaking off the security casing.
Domestic dispute: A 30-year-old woman said
her live-in boyfriend was sick all week with an ear infection. She said he
was belligerent and abusive all week, and his behavior spoiled her vacation.
The 30-year-old man, she said, slapped and hit her. She said he hit her on
the back of her head. She said she had a bruise on her leg he caused a few
days ago. The man said all they've done is argue and he wants to return to
North Carolina.
Simple assault: A 23-year-old woman was visiting
her friend on Chester Street. She said 10 women and three men were cursing
and swearing at her. She cursed back at them and they jumped her and dragged
her down the sidewalk, punching and kicking her. The woman had scrapes on
her shoulder and a split lip.
July 10
Harassment: A 31-year-old woman said
her former boyfriend has called her workplace several times since June. She
received an envelope from him. The return address said the sender's name was
Jesus. The address was 3:16 north of Heaven, Myrtle Beach. In a letter, the
man said he found God and wants to forget their past problems and work things
out.
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH
July 12
Littering: Several days prior to a citation being issued, supervisors
of the North Myrtle Beach Sanitation Department answered public complaints
concerning trash and litter blowing from a residence in the 4500 block of
Curlew Street in the Creekside subdivision. The solid waste was improperly
put in a container. Similar health and sanitation problems at this residence
had occurred in prior years. The Sanitation Department advised the owner of
the residence to clean the debris and properly bag the garbage. The owner
was very disrespectful to the supervisors and didn't comply to the department's
request. The case was turned over to the Special Enforcement Division of the
Public Safety Department.
Felony driving under the influence, leaving the scene
of an accident with injury and possession of stolen license tags: A
white male was driving a Mazda northbound at 17th Avenue South and Ocean Boulevard
in the Crescent Beach section of North Myrtle Beach when he slammed into the
rear of a Dodge truck. Police were en route to investigate the accident as
another officer arrived to assist with traffic control. The suspect fled the
scene on foot as the officer gave chase. The suspect was quickly caught. The
passenger victim of the Dodge truck was injured with head lacerations. The
victim and suspect were taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for
medical treatment and later released. A blood sample showed the suspect was
grossly intoxicated. The tags on the suspect's car were stolen. The suspect
was arrested, placed under a $10,000 surety bond and later transferred to
J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
July 10
Public disorderly conduct/public intoxication:
A man was arrested after police found him passed out in a ditch near
40th Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard. The subject said he had been drinking
all night and had no idea how he ended up in the ditch. The subject said he
only wanted a place to sleep. Police obliged the suspect and transported him
to jail. The subject was grossly intoxicated.
Trespassing, simple possession of marijuana and possession
of drug paraphernalia: Police were dispatched to 4902 North Ocean Boulevard
concerning a possible breaking and entering in progress. Upon catching the
suspects on the property, the subjects said they were trying to get out of
the wind to light their cigarettes. Pursuant to a search for possible weapons,
marijuana and a pipe were found on one of the suspects. The suspect was arrested
and taken to jail. The other subjects were transported to their vacationing
parents. There was no forced entry in surrounding dwellings.
Simple possession of marijuana: Police initiated a traffic stop at the 800
block of Sea Mountain Highway. A strong odor of marijuana was detected as
the officer spoke to the driver. A K-9 team was summoned. A quantity of marijuana
was found inside the vehicle. The suspect was arrested and taken to jail.
SURFSIDE BEACH
July 8
Grand larceny: A 17-year-old Surfside Beach man reported that three
surfboards were stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at Surfside Billiard's
Parlor in the 500 block of US 17 Business. The surfboards were valued at $1,025.
July 7
Disorderly conduct: A Knoxville, Tenn.,
woman was arrested after night clerks at a hotel in the 1600 block of North
Ocean Boulevard reported people on the third floor tossing furniture. Police
entered the room and saw no signs of domestic violence.
July 6
Larceny from a truck: A 19-year-old Garden City
Beach man reported his surfboard, valued at $275, stolen from his truck while
it was parked at a restaurant in the 1200 block of US 17 Business.
